Welcome to the first edition of “The Natural Choice”
This will be a monthly newsletter dedicated to communicating correct knowledge about health and healing and to increase awareness of the wonderful benefits of a true holistic approach. More people than ever are suffering from a wide variety of complaints including pain, fatigue, allergies, digestive, hormonal, insomnia, anxiety and weight gain. More people than ever are on drugs such as painkillers, anti-depressants, anti-inflammatory and antibiotics. The number of people who are overweight, obese, or who continually try to diet have reached alarming proportions. This sad state of affairs is due mostly to lifestyle and environmental factors and an over-reliance on the medical model, which attempts to suppress symptoms with the latest pill for the ill.
For over 20 years I have been on a search for the most effective ways to help people get well. I have studied with masters and have learned their brilliant techniques. When you treat causes of problems rather than symptoms, results are excellent. I invite you to read some patient testimonials on our website.
My goal is to bring you the latest breakthroughs in natural healthcare, which will be informative, enlightening and inspiring. I hope you will look forward to each issue and share them with friends and family.
Sincerely, Dr. Frederick Mindel
What is Holistic Healthcare?
My approach is holistic: a word often misused. The exact definition of holistic is Considering a whole thing or being to be more than a collection of parts; treating the whole person rather than just the symptoms of a disease. Your system is one whole: all the parts are interconnected and everything affects everything else. To qualify as holistic one must address these 8 areas:
1. Mental/Emotional Stress
2. Energy Depletions
3. Nurtional Deficiencies
4. Toxins
5. Hormonal Imbalances
6. Nervous System Interferences
7. Structural Imbalances
8. Microbes
Most health problems are caused by imbalances among these 8 areas, over time, as related to an individual’s genetics, lifestyle, and capacity to deal with stress. Properly addressing all of these areas leads to dramatic improvements in health. The longer underlying symptoms go uncorrected, the greater the risk of developing more serious problems.
Our unique holistic approach incorporates over 15 advanced techniques that enable us to quickly get to the root of most problems. Each newsletter will address some of these eight areas and how this affects your health.

Patient Success Story
When I came to Dr. Mindel, I had been diagnosed by a rhematologist as a having rheumatoid arthritis. I had a very high sediment rate along with the arthritis factor. My joints were very swollen: ankles, fingers, knuckles, and knees. I had a problem getting out of a chair, into a tub, dressing, walking etc.Dr. Mindel examined me and told me that the source of my problem was toxicity. By using kinesiology, detoxification techniques, homeopathy and other methods he was able to heal my condition. I now have no symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and have been able to resume my normal activities.

What is stress and how it affects us
What is stress? This widely used term really means anything that creates a disturbance in our system. This includes the daily demands of living in New York (e.g. job pressures, finances, family, relationships), environmental toxins (e.g. air pollution, pesticides, herbicides, harmful effects of electronics), physical stressors (e.g pain, trauma, physical activity) strong emotional reactions (e.g anger, worry, depression) and insomnia (e.g lack of sufficient, refreshing sleep).
How stress affects us:
We have precise mechanisms for dealing with stress, centered around the adrenal glands and their production of cortisol and DHEA. In acute stress situations cortisol levels rise, then return to normal once the stressor is removed. Cortisol is a vital hormone that affects virtually every system in the body, especially for providing energy and for anti-inflammatory benefits.
However, the very things that make cortisol wonderful also makes it devastatingly dangerous when the levels are too high or too low for prolonged periods of time. High cortisol levels are a major factor in many conditions including heart disease, diabetes, insomnia, depression, chronic fatigue syndrome, obesity, lowered immune system, irritable bowel syndrome, ulcers and colitis, osteoporosis, thyroid disorders and fibromyalgia. Very low cortisol levels are even more dangerous as they predispose us to autoimmune and degenerative diseases. Common symptoms for cortisol imbalance include cravings for salt, sugar, and carbohydrates, mood swings and irritability, fluctuation in energy levels throughout the day, a feeling that the daily demands of life are overwhelming, insomnia and increased abdominal fat
There are three levels of stress.
The good news is that it is now possible through recent advances in testing to determine exactly which level you are at. The even better news is that once we have your exact stress level we can tailor an individual program to reverse or eliminate the harmful effects of stress. Certainly proper diet, regular exercise and efficient stress management can help to lower stress levels. However, for many people this is not enough. Very specific, targeted nutritional supplements, formulated to lower cortisol levels, are needed. A daily multi-vitamin will not do the job.
I want to emphasize two areas of concern for so many of my patients: 1) weight gain, especially in the abdominal fat pad which is so difficult to lose, even with diet and exercise 2) A wish to strengthen their immune system and resistance to colds, infections and the flu as winter approaches. Addressing the cortisol connection to stress along with our holistic approach will get the job done for most people.
